Today’s Christmas Gift Countdown is curtesy of Sophia & Matt.
I met this lovely couple at Greenwich Market when I actually had a stall there myself selling women’s wear and accessories that I had designed and made. The Sophia & Matt brand is my go too for gifts for my mother, mother-in-law and new mum friends, often filling the wash bags with Neal’s Yard Remedies Organic goodies. I use the large baby changing bag on a regular basis as it’s perfect to fit all my toddlers needs for a visit to grandmas. The large wash bag in the featured image above and in a different print below I use every single day when I’m out and about with Felix! It travels in the pram or in my bag ensuring I always have a basic change of clothes and nappies etc with me. Love it and highly reccommend!
Sophia & Matt started a small London based design company in 2005, exclusively working with coated fabrics in far out 60s & 70s style prints, mainly spots, stripes & florals. Sophia’s degree was in fashion design, and Matt’s degree was in graphic design. They are both heavily influenced by nature (plants & flowers) and love to work with bold colours. Handbags & accessories in pastel colours on plain cotton is about as far removed from what they do as you can get, it just doesn’t suit them. They’re all about big abstract spots, stripes & florals, colour combinations and coated fabrics — they don’t do boring!
We started out by making some Handbags and Accessories selling them at Greenwich Market. People liked them so we made more. We opened a design studio in East London by the River Thames, shortly after that we met Hiro Koshimizu and went to Japan. Some nice Japanese people bought some nice things. We now sell our products in the UK & Japan. We produce 98% of our products in London, charge sensible prices, and are very grateful to have so many nice customers.
All the items featured are available to order directly from me for delivery* in the Frankfurt Region, (Now After Christmas) contact me here or from Sophia & Matt online. Please mention Silberzahn style when ordering.
Being such a small company (just two of them!), They do everything themselves. They design and come up with new product ideas together, Sophia turns that idea into a pattern and samples and refines the product until they are happy. They design the prints together and work to produce the final artwork and colour combinations. Matt designed and built their website from scratch, produces all graphic artwork, writing and photography.
When you buy something from us, that product will have been created and developed by us. If you order online it will have been carefully wrapped, packed and posted by us and you will always find a hand written note from one of us to say thank you.
Definitely a small business team worth supporting!
